‘According to quantum(量子论) mechanics(力学) we have forty conscious(意识到的) moments per second, and our brains connect this sequence(序列) of nows to create the illusion(幻觉) of the flow of time. So, what would things look like if that intermittence(时断时续) was made visible(明显的)? This body of work explores that hiccup(打嗝), that blink(眨眼), that ubiquitous(普遍存在的) fissure(裂开) in the falling-into-place of things.’

In her work ‘Quantum Blink’, Isabel M. Martinez aims at articulating(清晰地发) something in between the freezing of time – something that has often been characterized(以…为特点的) by photography(摄影) – and its relentless(无情的) passing. The combined Images of ‘Quantum Blink’ consist of two exposures(暴露) taken only instants apart(相距). Using masks placed in-camera she achieves to create the striped(有条纹的) pattern since this feature(特色) allows her to blend(混合) two images together and at the same time keep them from fully fusing(融合) into one another. ‘Each photograph in the series holds a brief sense of continuity(连续性), almost like an animation(活泼), slightly cinematographic(电影的). However, though they provide a notion(概念) of movement and progression(前进), their beginning and end is ambiguous(模糊不清的) and indistinguishable(不能区别的).’
